That's right, me, myself, I actually made a decision in a timely fashion! Alert the media… No applause please

I have decided that I am going to combine my two blogs. That means this blog will be moving over to playing the blind card. I hope that you all will consider following that site. It really would mean a lot to me.

There has just been a lot going on with my life. It would make things a lot less hectic, if I only had two update one blog. I'm sure many of you out there understand what that is like. Family, writing, and normal life, have just gotten to be too much. In order for me to stay devoted to you as well as to my regular day today life, this move is a necessary evil

I absolutely love having both blogs. I like being able to keep the two worlds separate. Nevertheless, both worlds have always collided from time to time. There has always been random blindness topics discussed on this blog. Or there has always been a time where I would talk about my writing on playing the blank card. Therefore, this move is it a huge stretch I suppose.

I am going to be asking for a sighted persons help on transferring all the posts and links from this blog over to playing the blind card. Some of them, are already there. I appreciate yo blind card. I hope to see you all there as soon as you can. I don't want you to miss out on anything new. From this point forward all new posts will be done on playing the blind card. There will only be one last post on this site to let everyone know when things are official.

My YouTube channel will remain the same. I don't have very many subscribers on that yet. I hope that you all will consider signing up for that as well. I do understand that my videos are a little boring for sighted people. I haven't yet done one that isn't completely black. The reason for this, is to give sighted people a chance to see a little bit of what a blind person sees. This is not how all the videos will be however. I plan in the near future to do an actual video where you can see me. Yuck! I admit I am not looking forward to that. I am a bit of a self-conscious person. You know what they say, we are our own worst critic.

Please continue following. I hope this hasn't caused any inconvenience. I look forward to chatting with you all in the future. I have also decided that the Facebook page for the Corprate is potentially going to be deleted. I hope that you will track down the playing the blind hard Facebook page and like that one for any future book updates

I really do love you all! You are a very important part of my creativity, my career, and my passion and reason for writing. I hope that you stick with me through the chaos patience while the rest are being transferred. I am not sure how long this move will take to be officially affective and permanent. So, it is a good idea to sign up for playing the bl
Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-72891371418063754882014-01-04T11:55:00.001-08:002014-01-04T11:55:51.609-08:00Where have you been Nicole?Hello all!

I have missed you all so much! I promise I have not forgotten you. Things in life have just been crazy lately. On top of that, I am still having computer problems. Probably worse than ever.

I will not bore you with details. However, I will say that things are going pretty well. I'm getting them sorted out anyway. In other words, I'm still alive, I'm still kicking, I haven't given up.

I must tell you in case you notice there are spelling errors or anything, for right now, I am blogging from my iPhone. That being said, you should know that I am too lazy to spend for ever typing on a touchscreen. So, I am using the dictate feature. Because of this, it is incredibly possible that there will be serious errors! I apologize in advance. In fact, there probably has already been some so I guess I apologize pre-advance. If you follow playing the blind cart also, you will know what I'm talking about. I just finished that post and there are definitely errors.

In other news…

Clandestine is in production currently. I hope the audiobook will be done and in your devices soon! The new narrators are awesome! I am lucky enough to have two, a male and a female. This will bring a new dynamic to the story. Hopefully, it will bring it to life right before your very years. The duo is very talented. I am also lucky enough to call them my friends. They are a husband and wife partnership. Their names, Joy and Andrew strobe. I'm guessing the dictate feature has butchered their last name. If so I apologize to them a lot! Joy has been my friend for a while. She is the owner at dreamscape covers. If you haven't seen her work yet, I recommend you check out her website. She's been having a lot of amazing sales and deals lately. Totally worth it. I put the link in for the site as I normally would, but this stinking app and also the dictate feature and also the talking program in general, will not allow me to do so. Sorry about that guys

I am also currently working on a short story that will be in an anthology in the future. I think you guys will like it. It is a prequel to my story sightless spirits. Which of course, I know has not been released. It will be soon. I am working on it I promise. I am having to put things on hold until the computer problems can be straightened out. When it is, I will let you know and get back to work so I can bring you the material as fast as possible.

Divinity the second book in the bound in blood series is finished!! I am in the middle of still getting with an editor. I only have the second half left to be edited. I have think I have found someone. She comes very highly recommended. I will keep you posted as that progress is made

I am also considering changing the name of clandestine. I have decided that it is possible but not all young adult readers know what the word clandestine meetings. How, I think I know some adults that don't have a clue what that word means. I understand. So, I am wondering if I change the name if that will get people more interested in the title. Crap… See what I mean about errors in this paragraph? Anyway, I am considering changing the name to simply the series name. Bound in blood. What do you guys think? I would love to hear your thoughts. Send me any type of email private message or comment if you have any.

I am also planning to update my YouTube channel more frequently now that I have an updated iPhone. The video feature works much easier. So please be on the lookout for more videos coming soon!

The other situation is with this blog in general. I have thought about doing this before, but now with the problems with my computer I am thinking about it more heavily. I am considering combining my two blogs Nicole Ray and playing the blind card.

If I do, chances are this blog will be moved over to playing the blind card. This is because I have more followers on that page. It is also more established. It is been around longer. I would also like to hear your guises thoughts about this change. I don't want to do anything that you guys aren't okay with. Let me know what you think.

If the change is made. And if Nicole Ray, moves permanently to just playing the Blenkarne, I can't automatically transfer followers from this blog to that one. I will give you guys plenty of notice however, so that you can get to that one. I hope that you will all consider following playing the blank card either way. I will keep it updated on Facebook and on the blogs on what I did. A decision should be made in the next few days.

I have some funny posts bouncing around my head the last week. I haven't been able to post them however, due to the computer issues. I'm hoping now with this app that I will be able to. It is undecided whether they will be put on the site or I'm playing the blank card. So please consider finding both so that you will be ready and able to read as they come out. I'm not even going to try to post the link to playing the blame card through this dictate feature. I really hope that all of you are able to see the other links on my page surrounding this post. If UR you will find links to not only playing the blank card but also to the YouTube channel and also to descriptions about my books. You can also find links to things that I mentioned earlier such as dreamscape covers.

Once again, I am sorry for my absence. I am also sorry that there is so many spelling errors in this post. I hope you all can find in your heart to forgive me for all of it. I will try to be more diligent in the future. I promise that you all mean very much to me. And I am still plugging away. I will get back to work and back to writing very soon. As I mentioned, stories have been bouncing around my head for days. This really sucks in fact, I'm in the mood to write! Finally! Writers block ended. The only problem is I can't right I have no computer in which to write on. How frustrating! Hopefully the stories will stick around in my head long enough to be put down onto the keyboard in into the my computer's memory

So I am done rambling for now. I hope to talk to you all soon. I'm hoping this app will continue to work for me so that I can update things more frequently. Because I am on my iPhone, I should hopefully be able to maybe post pictures now and then too. Please understand if there is no private pictures of my family however. But I will try to post other random pics as they come along

Love you all bunches! Keep on reading!
Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-54212861386385040592013-06-25T16:24:00.000-07:002013-06-25T16:24:26.669-07:00Talking Programs Are Not A Blind Girls Best FriendGreetings and salutations!

Though it's probably seemed like it lately, no I have not dropped off the face of the Earth. There has been a lot going on that has prevented me from posting. The first and most annoying is the talking program on my new computer.

It doesn't like me much and believe me, the feeling is mutual. I am a JAWS girl through and through, but unfortunately, that is not what I'm running on my new laptop. Therefore, I come to you now after charging up my old one. The new program won't let me access Blogger for some God foresaken reason.

I'm sure it isn't the fault of the program and that is why I am not naming it here. I don't wish to give it bad marks in the virtual world. As we all know, those can be quite damaging and last forever.

I think the problem boils down to simple operator error and nothing more. I assure you that I'm working on it and one way or another, will figure it out. I have to... even though it's seriously cramping my style.

I will if nothing else keep this laptop charged just for the blog and promise to post again soon. Thank you to all my loyal followers. I love you all and will talk to you soon.Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-51564738239740149312013-03-13T09:44:00.000-07:002013-03-13T09:44:50.057-07:00Narrator For Bound In Blood: Melissa StromThe release of Clandestine in audio is rapidly approaching. Cassandra Clare is coming to a town near here to help kick off the relase of her newest book Clockwork Princess: The infernal Devices book 3!

The talented mega author is also responsible for the amazing Mortal Instruments series. Which by the way, just happens to be one of my absolute favorites.

Did I mention that Cassandra Clare is coming to Portland??? I am so frickin excited I can hardly contain myself!!

I admit I don't own any books that are signed by the author. So, the fact that my very first one will be by one of my favorites... is the coolest thing ever!!!! Can you tell I'm excited? If you can't, let me tell you... I AM!!!!

Do any of you love these books as much as I do? If so, do you plan to check out one of Clare's tour stops?Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-72276913261593258702013-03-09T15:21:00.000-08:002013-03-09T15:21:11.606-08:00Back To NatureOn Friday little Peanut had her very first field trip. We visited a tree farm that was responsible for both the growth of regular trees, as well as the beloved Christmas tree.

Although the kids all range from four to five years old and have the attention span of Dori from Finding Nimo, they all did excellent. They payed attention to our tour guide and loved seeing examples of Pine Cones of all shapes and sizes. They were especially enthralled with one that was over a foot tall. Which of course, for some (my Peanut included), the large cone was over half their size.

They were also show pieces of trees to demonstrate the aging process of the wood. They didn't seem to understand the ring concept, but they loved it nevertheless.

At the end the kids were allowed to pick out a sapling Douglas Fur. This was of course the coolest thing ever!

Peanut has already acusted the services of her well enduring Papa to plant her field trip prize. So needless to say, we are now the proud owner of a baby Douglas Fur. In about six years we can even use it as our Christmas tree if we so choose. Personally, I intend on leaving it in the yard for good to serve as a memory for Peanut of her very first outting with her classmates.

It might not have been something mega elaborate, but she had a blast. She can't wait for their next field trip. It is especially cool now because she actually knows the meaning of the word field trip.

Have your kids gone on any cool outtings this year? If so, tell us about them in the comment section of this post.Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-75334481423430272852013-03-07T17:31:00.000-08:002013-03-07T17:31:34.470-08:00Just Throwing It Out There... Jodi AriasSo I've already blogged on this today. But, I've been watching HLN this evening and the informative commentary of Nancy Grace and I just picked up on something...

Jodi Arias claims that before she got the gun from the closet, she exited the bathroom and ran down the long hall. She said that she had a sense of Travis chasing right behind her and could hear his feet running on the tile floor toward her.

If that is true, wouldn't he then have been shot in the hallway? But by her stoy, they were in the bathroom at the time of the shooting. She says that after the gun went off, they fell to the floor. He was still trying to get on top of her and is yelling threatening profanities about taking her life.

Now this is just speculation, but how could he be yelling profanities if she just shot him in the face. Don't quote me, but I believe it was said in the beginning of the trial that the bullet lodged in Alexander's cheek. If this were true, wouldn't be a little difficult to verbalize threats, let alone yell them?

Either way, it sounds like she can't keep her own stories straight. Maybe she should have chatted with Casey Anthony before carrying out her deviant and psychotic plan.Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-60801033585589468122013-03-07T14:45:00.000-08:002013-03-07T14:45:52.387-08:00Lies and Deceptions Of Jodi AriasThe world has been captivated by the trial of the young woman from California Jodi Arias. She is being charged with the brutal murder of Travis Alexander of Arizona.

For the past seventeen days the unthinkable has happened. The murderer has been placed front and center on the stand discussing details, trying to keep herself off death row. Even more interesting, thanks to laws of Arizona, the jury has been able to ask her pointed questions as well. It has been said that they hammered her with over two hundred questions.

Travis lost his life June 4, 2008. He was stabbed 27 times, slit from ear to ear and shot in the face. While Jodi has admitted to killing Alexander, she is claiming fog style memory loss and says she killed him in self-defense because she is a battered woman.

Admitedly, I have not been following this case from day one. In some ways however, I think that is a good thing. My thoughts and opinions weren't swayed by media hype. When my first conclusions were made, they were met cold without other influence. Understandably, my opion means nothing in the big scheme of things. Even still, I can say firmly that it is my opinion that this murder was comitted by a cold hearted ruthless woman. There is plenty of evidence indicating the murder was pre-meditated. There are witnesses that speak out about how controling, obsessive and mentally unstable that Arias was during the course of the relationship.

There is no proof that she was a battered woman. In fact, when witnesses took the stand and spoke to media, they claim the exact opposite. They bare witness to how good, and kind and what an overal genuine person Travis was. The witnesses were friends, old girlfriends, boyfriends, roomates, coworkers and others to both Alexander and Arias.

If you go to www.hlntv.com/jodiarias you will be able to see the route she took that summer from her hometown in California to where she stole the life of Travis Alexander. There you will also find up to date court room information as it happens. There are video clips from the court room, interviews with Travis's friends and other videos that show Travis alive and well.

Arias has been caught in lie after lie after lie. Her first story to the police was that ninjas broke into Alexander's home and raided the place and murdering Travis. Finally after two years of her diception, she decided it's finally time to tell the truth. Is this because she was actually remorseful? Or is it because she knew she was caught and figured it was time to come clean?

Arias claims that she witnessed Alexander pleasuring himself to child porn and that their relationship was never the same after that. However, there is no proof to substantiate these claims. There was nothing on his computer or home that even remotely pointed to the fact that he was a sex offender of any kind.

She says that he broke her finger in January of 2008, leaving her left ring finger disfigured, i.e bent unnaturally. During coss-examination the prosecuter Juan Marinez skillfully pointed out that in pictures months later the finger was perfectly straight, with no abnormality whatsoever.

An audio tape detailing a conversation of phone sex between Arias was recovered. She claimed that she recorded the call for Alexander's benefit. However, at time of recovery, it was in the defendant's posession, not the victim. The recording does display that the two of them engaged in very kinky adult activities. But, it also clearly demonstrates that Arias was conscenting to these activities despite what the defense is aledging.

Arias claims once the gun went off her mind became foggy, working on auto-pilot if you will. She has no memory of the stabbing, dragging the victim back to the shower, or her weak attempts at covering her tracks. First of all, there is evidence that would indicate the stabbing came first. The shell casing was found in a puddle of blood. If the gun shot supposedly came first, there shouldn't have been any blood spilled yet. She had an option to leave the home unharmed despite her claims. When she ran down the long hall of the home and turned right into the closet where she supposedly retrieved the mystery gun, she could have went left and got out of the house.

Which brings me to my next point. A few days before the killing a gun was stolen from Arias's grandparent's home. It just so happened that the caliber of weapon stolen matched the caliber of shell casing found at the scene. The gun stolen from the grandparents was never recovered.

She filled two gas cans before going to Arizona. The prosecution has claimed this was purely a sign of pre-meditation. They say she didn't want to be seen anywhere near Arizona filling up. This was a measure taken by Arias to cover her tracks.

One of the most sickening things about the aftermath of this brutal murder, was in Arias's actions to take the potential heat off herself. She actually had the gutts and nerve to send Alexander's grandmother flowers expressing aledged sympathy of the death of her grandson. She took it a step further by attaching a note that said that if the grandma ever needed anything, she could call Jodi and then gave her phone number. How sick and twisted do you have to be to think this is anywhere near the relm of ok and normal? I hope that the grandmother either burnt the flowers or sent them through a garbage disposal. Arias also had the nerve to attend the memorial service for Alexander. Just who does this woman think she is?

There are countless more lies I could discuss here. It would take too long to list them all. I may address more of them in future posts. These are just some of the few that I find most damning to the defendant, but hardly the worst of the evidence against her. It is clear that Jodi Arias is pathogical, sick, twisted, meniacal and without a doubt empty and unable to realize how psychotic she is. This woman needs to be held accountable for her actions. It would be a terrible injustice to see her walk away from this or to even have the minimum sentence of fifteen years. I have no doubt that if she was ever releaced, she could and would strike again.

Have you been following the trial? What are you thoughts, opinions and theories? Leave them in the comment section of this post.Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-22203774301379447382013-03-05T08:48:00.000-08:002013-03-05T08:48:18.590-08:00Books Books Books And More BooksHave I mentioned that I love to read? Well if not, I do. It kind of borders on obsession actually.

When I first became blind, I hated the idea of audio books. Now, a decade later, I love them and don't know how I ever got along without them.

I will read pretty much anything. My favorite genre lately is ironically paranormal fiction. I am in the middle of several series and am eager to get my hands on more literary genius from these authors. I am currently reading the Southern Vampire Mysteries, The Morganville Vampires, The Weather Warden, Blood Lines and possibly more that I'm not thinking of. Oh yes, that's right! I am also reading the 666 Park Avenue novels and also the All These Things I've Done series.

Most of the series litsted above are in between books right now. This is totally sad because I'm dying to know what happens. Oh yeah! How could I have possibly forgot? I am also reading the Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices series too. These are for sure hands down some of my favorites. I'm actually excited to say that Cassandra Clare will be touring near where I live this month. I'm hoping to check it out, but that is another post for a different day.

My goal on Good Reads this year is to at least read fifty books. As sick as my obsession is, I don't think that should be a problem. I figured to set the number a little on the low side though just in case. Let's face it, life happens and sometimes chaos prevents us from enjoying our guilty pleasures.

Do you love to read? What are you reading right now? Also, what is the one book or series that you've read countless times and still can't get enough of it? Let's chat about it in the comment section:)

PS... Thank you all for being loyal readers of my ramblings. If you love the blog and the books, please tell your friends. I see some blogs with hundreds and thousands of followers. My site is experiencing blog envy and is turning green as we speak. Please help cure this horrible condition by encouraging more followers:)
For me, it's a no brainer hands down. My family. More specifically, my two daughters.

My little Princess and Peanut are my life and undoubtedly my everything. Every single choice I make is in some way a reflection of what's best for them.

Most parents would probably agree that when you have a baby, your entire world shifts to revolve around the newest little person in your life. Suddenly, your life, your wants and your needs come in second and sometimes, aren't even considered at all. It's all about your little guy or your little girl.

I come from both ends of the spectrum. With Princess, I was a teen mom. I was quite a bit older when I gave birth to Peanut. It's interesting to reflect on the way things are done when you are a young parent verses even just a few years older.

I also think it's enthralling to consider the differences and similarities between two different children. In some cases I have seen siblings who are very much alike. In others, I've seen the children be as different as night and day. And that's okay.

All kids are their own little people, unique individuals ready to take the world by storm. It's our job to give them to go out there and weather whatever comes their way.

Do you ever find yourself wondering who taught this kid to act this way? It can sometimes be a hard lesson to learn that well, we did as parents. Children learn the majority of their behaviors, habits, manners, values, etc. from us. It's easy to think that a little one isn't paying attention or that things we say travel right over their heads.

Then you receive the wake up call by hearing your innocent little one say their first cuss word. Gee, I wonder if they got them from Dora, or maybe Sponge Bob... of course they didn't. All kids go through a cuzzing fpeiod in their life. For some kids it's barely ever. For others, it's a regular habit that has you thinking their well on their way to becoming the next Junior truck driver or sailor. I assure you it's normal. It's all in how you handle it.

I have been pretty lucky. My little ones never went through a serious foul language period. This of course isn't to say they have never repeated a naughty word in their time. They have. I'm just saying it doesn't happen often.

The other great part of having little ones is when they start having actual conversations with you. In the ages between two and five, I've descovered that most kids have no filter. They tend to say whatever it is they're thinking, right when they think it, no matter who is around. My oldest Princess once yelled at a lady in a store who bent over and passed gas. My youngest little Peanut has been quoted at saying "take a hike old lady". As parents, it's so important not to get to taken over by mortification. You've gotta learn not to sweat the small stuff and laugh things off. Most people know the old saying, "kids say the darndest things." If they don't, they've probably een living alone in a cave for the past sever centuries.

There's nothing better than the love of a child. It's unconditional and non-judgemental. There's nothing like when you have a bad day and your little one comes up and gives you a giant bear hug just because. No one will ever love you as much as your child does.

It is said that we are our child's most important teacher. While I believe this to be true, I feel that it's two fold. They are our teachers too. Some of the most important lessons I've learned in life, I've learned from my girls. I love every minute of being a mom, even on the days I want to pull my hair out. I wouldn't change a single thing about my children or my life with them. They are mine and I in turn, am theirs. Just as it should be.Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-44642728791256778832013-02-28T22:32:00.000-08:002013-02-28T22:32:07.224-08:00A Few Random ThoughtsSome times in life things happen that you can't control. Now don't misunderstand. These things aren't all necessarily bad. Sometimes they are wonderful carmic events that change your life for the good.

When times get tough and the road long, always remember you have to reach your destination eventually. It might seem endless and fully of bumps and pot-holes, but it's there nevertheless.

Lately, I've been questing what's important in life. I've been pondering the way I think about things. It's possible that my thoughts hold the power to either encourage or discourage my health, happiness and general well-being.

Isn't it interesting that our own mind, just ours and ours alone, has such amazing power? If we can know that, why is it so difficult to reverse any negative thoughts and flood our brains with only goodness and light?

The answer is simple...

Because we're human! Unfortunately, it is in our nature to be skeptical. It is also normal to live occasionally by the "glass is half empty" way of thinking.

The problem comes from letting ourselves drown in the sorrow and self-ptty that attempts to take us over. It's easy to give up and crawl into the hole and hide forever. It's much harder to stand up, dust ourselves off and keep going.

The second example is worth it however. The rewards for sticking to the positive are endless. People who don't let themselves get caught up in the everyday drama that insists upon dragging us down.

So my call to action is this...

Try this for one week. Force your brain to eliminate the negative and embrace the positive. When you feel yourself getting sucked into the darkness, pull yourself out and run away as fast as you can. Keep telling yourself that you are worth it and you can do it.

If this doesn't help after a week, you haven't lost anything. That's the beauty of it. You have nothing to lose, but everything to gain. So try it, and let me know in the comment section or personal message how it works for you. Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-41275290368948640822013-02-14T15:02:00.000-08:002013-02-14T15:02:48.394-08:00Clandestin In Audio Update!Hey guys, this is just a quick note to let you know that I have just finished reviewing the audio book for Clandestine!!

Thanks to my crazy life, it has taken long than expected, but it is done... done... DONE! I am very excited about it. I know you guys are going to love love love it.

Clandestine is narrated and produced by the lovely and talented Melissa Strom. She brings real life and demnsion and depth to the main character Emily Jameson as well as to the supporting cast of characters. The slayers are strong lively beings with amazing personalities and hillarious sarcastic charm.

By contrast, the vampires are creepy savage creatures that will leave your blood running cold. They give new meaning to the word... RUN!

Melissa Strom portrays and delivers a flwless performance in her rendition of this heart poundingly enthralling books. Between the story itself, and the way she captures it and makes it her own, you will be left begging to listen and read Divinity.

The next step in the production process is for Melissa to make a few minor changes. After that I will review those sections, pay her for her hard work and then... wait for it... wait for it... the book will be ready for your listening pleasure!!!!

Once on sale, Clandestine will be available for purchaase and download at Amazon, Audible, and iTunes.

I haven't been active on this blog and am behind on deadlines. I am still here and devoted to my work. Unfortunately, as some of you know life as a single mommy sometimes takes over and things get jumbled.

It seems like lately, if it's not one thing it's the other. Have you ever stepped back and took an outside look at your life? That's what I've been doing lately. Things have gotten very distorted and out of focus. Seeings how I'm blind, that's a pretty big improvement.

I'm trying to get back in the swing of things and promise to be full fledge normal very soon. I've been working on the review process for Clandestine in audio practically none stop. I have also gotten several chapters of Sightless Spirits and the yet untitled book three of Bound In Blood. Divinity is still in the editing stages.

I've also been trying to plan a fun give-a-away for the near future as well as planning some future signings to get out in public.

It's difficult to get the word out and with lack of funds for advertising and travel, the job can be that much more combersome. This is a huge pitfall of self-publishing that I plan to adress more fully in a future post.

My goal is to start posting more here so that the blog reader base will increase. I want to talk about things you want to read about. If there is ever anything you want to hear about no matter what the topic is, please don't hesitate to drop me a line.

I am also very open to guest posts on this blog. Are you an author? Maybe you are a reader who loves books and wants to talk about them. Or maybe you are a reviewer or someone else with a love and passion for the literary world. Either way, if you want to do a guest post, I want to work with you.

Do you have any ideas for posts? Let me know what you're thinking and I'll try to make it happen.

I will tell you that I am really loving the Bound In Blood series and think you will all enjoy where it's heading in the future. There are more tweists turns magic and mayham then the first installment of Clandestine. There are new love issues and jam packed action to keep you craving more.

The audio book for Clandestine is going to be marvelous. The narrator Melissa Strom is amazing and I love love love the music by Toby Semane.

As always keep checking back for more updates. You can also visit me on Facebook by clicking the link on this site. Remember, every like the page gets, helps get the word out for free. Please help by pressing the like button for the FB page. I'm active on there and always respond to questions, comments and or messages.

I have been having Twitter issues so I admit I haven't been as active there. You can also find me on Good Reads where I host a group and am a member to several groups.

I also have my blog Playing The Blind Card where you can get more info as well. Oh and side not, I have been contemplating combining the two blogs. What do you think? I will keep you posted on that front as well. I hope that if this happens all followers will consider traveling to that blog.

Thanks for listening to my rambling and I will be back soon more:)Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-91876297912075545632013-01-02T17:25:00.000-08:002013-01-02T17:25:34.126-08:00HAPPY NEW YEARSI would like to send a shout out to all my readers! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The film was a laugh riot from start to finish.

It goes along with the equally funny Knocked Up. That one was a tough act to follow. Nevertheless, the all-star cast pulled it off in spades.

Find a sitter for the kiddos, tuck them into bed and settle in for a night of good writing and hilarity. Although this one isn’t a wise choice for your children, it isn’t one you’ll one to miss.

I give this movie a definite five stars! I recommend it for the adult crowd and for anyone who loves a good belly laugh. Warning! The muscles in your abdomen may experience soreness after viewing this movie. Watch at your own risk.
Things have been very busy and honestly, a bit crazy around here. I will try to keep up in the future.

Now, I'd like to let you know that the production of Clandestine is well under way. Things are going great! Melissa Strom is a fantastic narrator and I think you will all love her work.

The past few day she and I have been discussing the music for the book that will play during the opening and closing credits. There is a lot of talent out there, but I think we've found the artist that will best match the Bound In Blood series. When I've nailed down the details and make it all official, I will post a sample of the music for all of you to check out!

Melissa says that she is down to the editing process of her recording. That's right... that means we are almost there folks! Are you seriously as excited as I am??? I can hardly stand it.

The series will be available for your download on Audible, Amazon and iTunes! When things are closer to being finalized, I will let you know more about price and what not.

Stay tuned for my next post. I am going to give you a Divinity update. I will tell you that you will be able to buy it in January! I will also be revealing the cover in the next post as well. If you can't wait that long you can find the cover as well as book description on Good Reads. Hope on over and add it to your "To Read" shelves:)
Maybe you think your pledge won’t make a difference. Maybe you are leery of giving money to a stranger. No matter what the reason, I hope you will reconsider.

I assure you that every dollar earned will be going to this book project. My fans want it so much that it is crucial for me to get it done. That being said, there is no way I would ever back out of my end of the deal.

Kick Starter is a crowd funding website that aims to help connect people with creative projects with possible investors. A person has a limited amount of time to reach their goal. If their goal is not met, no money exchanges hands. That’s right, your money never leaves your wallet.

Second, if you decide to pledge, you will receive prizes for your generosity. Therefore, it’s kind of like purchasing something. Once the goal date has passed, all the people who supported the project will receive their items.

I plan to send people who pledge emails updating them on the progress on the production of the audio book. I am producing my books through a company called ACX. The narrator I have chosen is Melissa Strom. She is a well respected and very talented actress. She has agreed to stay on for the entire series which is anticipated to be four novels.

Again, I know it seems risky. Just know that I will never receive any of your financial banking information. All transactions are completed through Amazon Payments. This is a secure way to ensure your financial protection.

The reason it is so important to me to have my books done in audio is because… well, I myself am blind. I know what it’s like to look for a novel on Audible and have it not be there. That is one of the most frustrating things a book lover can go through. Additionally, as mentioned earlier, fans have written to me wanting to know when the series will be available in audio.

The only reason I haven’t done it by myself is because I haven’t had the money. My first book only just came out in August and the second will be out in December. Therefore, right now my funds are limited. I would never ask strangers for funds if it wasn’t completely necessary. This is the only way I can carry out this portion of my dream in a somewhat timely fashion.

I am a single mommy to two great little girls. I want them to be proud of their mom. Most of all, I want to build a career that will give them a better life. Yes, money can’t by happiness, but it is a big part of life.

I don’t want to depend on Disability income anymore. I want the pride of standing on my own two feet knowing that I’ve worked my buns off to get there. When I received my first royalty check of fifty dollars, you would have thought that I had been given a mountain of diamonds and gold ripe for the picking. I cried, knowing that this was my first real pay check. I earned it all by myself and not because of something that was beyond my control.

The town I live in is a difficult one for finding regular employment, especially when you have a disability. I have tried on numerous occasions to get a job. On all of those occasions I was turned down. They of course couldn’t tell me the real reason, but I knew what it was. They were intimidated by my blindness. They didn’t think I could handle the job, though I was more than qualified. I was never given the proper chance that I deserved and wanted so desperately.

You see, I have never been someone that enjoys getting something for nothing. That’s why it took me so long to decide on creating a Kick Starter project. I finally decided that it wouldn’t hurt to try. If someone didn’t want to pledge, they didn’t have to. If they did, then awesome.

I didn’t want to wonder for the rest of my life if it would have worked. It’s the what if’s that keep you up at night and kicking yourself in the end.

The great thing about a Kick Starter project is that you can back out at any time if you change your mind. The minimum pledge is one dollar, so breaking the bank is not a problem. You will have comfort in knowing that you helped in making someone’s dream come true. Someday when I’m as famous as James Patterson or any of the other great authors out there, you can say you helped me get to where I am.

I don’t plan to take your money and run. As I’ve said, you will get some really cool prizes for each of your donations. I will send you update emails and I’d like to keep in touch with you long after the project is completed. I want you to know that your contribution means a lot to me and I will never forget it or you. I will also be happy to respond to emails anytime, even if the project is done and the productions complete. After all, if it wasn’t for all of you, it wouldn’t be possible.

I only have until November first to reach my goal. That is less than two weeks away. So I am before you on my hands and knees begging for your support. Pretty please consider helping me achieve my dream. It would mean a lot and I’d be eternally grateful.
Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-10954201099509699112012-10-04T15:14:00.000-07:002012-10-04T15:14:39.058-07:00Help Make A Dream A Realityclick HERE to donate a small piece of your time and consider supporting my dream.

It has been requested by many of my fans in the blind community that my Bound In Blood series be made available in audio. I found a site called ACX that can make this happen. It distrubutes books to sites such as Audible Amazon iTunes
To produce a professional audio book it takes considerable ammounts of time, energy and of course money. Unfortunately, since I am a fairly new author, the funds are a bit of a problem.

So, I turned to Kick Starter to help make my dream a reality. It is a great crowd funding website that allows people an opportunity to turn to the public to gain funding for their creative projects.

I know my series would be great in audio and have already found the perfect narrator. Melissa Strom is an amazing talent and is willing to work with me on my series. The next step... funding.

My project will be open until November 1, 2012. There is less then a month left! I already have six backers, but am hoping to find some more. When a person makes a pledge and becomes a backer, they will receive great rewards and prizes as well as the good feeling of knowing they've helped their fellow man... or, woman in my case:)

I'm asking you to please visit my Project Page and consider what you can do to help. Remember the the pledge can be as low as one dollar. Also, if I don't reach my goal, no money ever exchanges hands. This protects YOU the potential backer from funding a prject that will never see completion.

Not convinced yet? Don't have the money, but still want to help?

That's great too! All you have to do is spread the word about my project in any way you can. Word of mouth, email, Facebook, Twitting, Good Reads, Tumblr.... just to name a few. Are you a blogger? It would be great if I could find bloggers willing to post an interview or info about my project, or even a guest post. The key to reaching my goal is getting the project out there in front of people like you. So lets get spreading!!!! :)

Anyway, I'm done plugging now. Well sorta:) I will let you go think this over. Check out the page and give it a read. There's also an adorable video for your viewing pleasure that my two amazing daughters did to try and help mommy out. It is really cute.

So one more time... pretty pretty please please consider doing anything you can to help this project. It would mean more to me than you would ever know.
Seriously can't get enough of them? Have you ever wondered how you could shout from the roof tops about your latest favorite author? This post will give you some ideas.

If it wasn't for authors, you wouldn't be able to sate your craving for good literature. They are what feed your addiction and give you amazing books to charish.

Whether an author is new or an established celebrity of the literary world, they still need all the support they can get. One of the best ways for them to market is through their readers.

Let's just say Jane reads a book. When she's done she loves it and wants more. So she jumps on her computer writes a review on Amazon raving about the novel. This will show other readers the book is worth picking up. Many people trust the word of a fellow consumer over the word of a top notch reviewer in a big name magazine.

So... there was way number one to support an author. Review... review.... review! If you loved it go write a few sentences about why. What was your favorite part? Who was your favorite character? Did you enjoy the plot and dialogue? What about the writing style?

Next Jane figures if she's going to write a review on the retail site where she purchased it, she might as well keep going. So, she clicks on through to Good Reads and puts her fabulous review there. Good Reads is one of the widely used social networking sites in regards to books. If you haven't been their yet, what are you waiting for? It is a great community of authors, readers, reviewers, bloggers, etc. It's basically like Facebook, but for books.

There are other great sites that are similar to Good Reads. It's all a matter of preference. Choose one that's right for you and sign up. They are a lot of fun.

This of course was way number two...

Next Jane decides to hit up all her other favorite social networking sites. She logs into places like Facebook Twitter Tumblr Dig and of course the list goes on and on and on. There are oodles of networking sites out there. Jane decides to plug the book on all the one's she's registered with. She tells all her friends to check out the book.

Well, if Jane has a hundred friends, she just marketed the book to all of those people. If even one person likes or shares Jane's post, then they've just marketed it to all of their friends. It turns into a chain reaction and suddenly the word gets out to thousands. Now, all of these wonderful people can enjoy the book Jane loved and help an author at the same time.

That was way number three...

Along the same line of logic... An authors page on Amazon, their blog, Barnes & Noble, etc all will more than likely have some kind of social networking button. You can like it, share it, pin it and lord knows what else. If you're not a social networking goo-roo it will probably have an option to send it to friends in an email. This is a great way to show your support. Authors will love to see you are a fan and in some cases, will even chat with you about the book if you like.

This was way number four...

Last but not least, use your words. When your at work, a coffee shop or grocery store, tell people. Spread the word. I'm constantly telling people about my favorite books.

Hopefully I've given you a few ideas. Even if you don't want to go as far as Jane, hop on over and press the like button on a book or author page of your favorite retail website. It only takes a second and it would mean a lot to that author.

Not sure you can? How about we practice?

My Amazon Author Page
My Facebook Page

If you can master these two... you can do anything:)
It was for a country singer named Craig Campbell at the local fair in my small hole in the wall town. He’s a down home country boy with an adorable southern accent.

Even not being able to see, I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the concert and would go and see him again no questions asked. He sang not only his own awesome songs but also those by artists such as Alabama, Merl Haggerd, Tracy Bird, etc.

He was a very personable entertainer that had the crowd laughing on several occasions. What was more powerful still was the way everyone cheered for the songs they knew and even for those they didn’t. They stomped there feet loud enough that at times it sounded like thunder rolling through the stadium and often clapped in time with his beats.

The crowd on the ground worked hard for Craig’s attention and some were lucky enough to get a free T-Shirt or in the case of one young lady a story to tell. She had purchased a pair of Craig Campbell sunglasses from the merchandise booth and she handed them up to the singer while he was performing. He gladly took them and even wore them through part of one of his songs. He used her camera and took a picture of himself wearing her glasses. This of course gave me an idea.

I leaned over and asked my friend, “Do you think he would sign my cane?”

She thought there was a decent chance of it so she led me as well as Princess down on the ground in front of the stage. We were close enough to it that I could touch the floor of it. Every time he started our way my friend had me raise the cane up high tilted towards the stage. She attached a sharpie pen to the elastic band that is connected to the handle. Unfortunately though Craig didn’t see our efforts because that was around the time he was tossing out T-Shirts to people.

After the concert he was kind enough to stay long enough for everyone who wanted an autograph could get one. The line was gynormous and I thought we would be there for hours. It moved fairly quickly though once it got going. I bought Princess a shirt that she could have signed and excitement was vibrating off of her as we moved through the line. She wanted me to get in a picture with him and her when we got up there but I admit I was apprehensive. I don’t normally like pictures even on a regular circumstance. So… you can imagine my predicament when little Miss Princess wants me to pose with a celebrity.

When we got up for our turn with Craig he signed my daughter’s shirt and was very friendly. I felt silly directly asking him to sign my cane and started to lose my nerve. My friend however, did not.

Once she asked he accepted of course with no issue. The smart ass in me came out in full force and I said…

Me: I tried to get you to sign it while you were singing but you didn’t see it.
Craig: I saw you… you were the one over there
Me: Well than why didn’t you sign it?
Craig: I didn’t know you wanted me to
Me: I was holding it up to the stage with a pen attached
Craig: Oh I’m sorry

This is when he starts signing my cane

Me: It’s alright dude, I didn’t see it either (totally dead pan and yes I’m a nerd and said dude)

Silence for about five seconds where I assume he was trying to gage my seriousness or maybe if I am even really blind. Once the evaluation was properly calculated he burst out laughing exclaiming “I love it.”

For a split second I thought about taking the opportunity that had presented itself and asked him if he would buy a copy of Clandestine How cool would that have been to have a famous person agree to check out your very first book. Then I could be like “hey Craig and me are “like this” (this is where I’d cross my fingers) and he even owns a copy of my book.” But the book isn’t technically out yet since the release is of course set for next month. That would be wicked cool though but I didn’t think it was appropriate. Lol I wish I would have had a copy with me I could have just gave it to him… DANG IT! If only the concert was after it was out! lol

But seriously, Princess and I had a wonderful time at the concert and the conversation after is something I will never forget. I’m going to have to get a new cane now though but it’s completely worth it. I will keep this one forever. Craig Campbell is a sweetheart and very down to earth as well as good natured to my corky sarcasm. I had a blast and can’t wait for him to come to town again.

PS… I really wanted a 2012 tour shirt for my daughter but unfortunately they were out of her size by the time we got up in the line. If anyone from Craig’s crew ever reads this I would love to know where I can get one for her. She really wanted that one because it had Longview WA written on the back as one of his many tour stops. She still got a different one but still really wants that one. I would really appreciate it and since we are “like this” and all… lol Just kidding

I just wanted to drop you a quick note about how Princess's first day of school. It went off without a hitch! She totally loved it!

She made new friends and reunited with friends from her old elementary school. She has at least a few friends in each class. All the teachers apparently were very cool and fun to listen to.

The only complaint that she had was about lunch. She said that it tasted stail. I personally don't see how since it is the first day of school and everything should be fresh. I think she's just picky. lol

Believe it or not, so far she is in love with school. She can't wait for tomorrow and I hope the good feeling train keeps rolling through.Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-24946715475736018002012-09-05T07:15:00.000-07:002012-09-05T07:15:23.844-07:00My Baby's Growing UpToday my Princess starts her very first day of Junior High. She will have eight classes, a locker, lunch in a cafeteria and will be riding the bus. I can't help the tears as I get ready to send her off.

I know that growing up is a part of life. I get it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I want to keep my girls little bundles of joy forever. I want them to need me and never leave the nest.

She is very excited and scared all rolled into one wild mixed emotion. She got ready way earlier then she needed to and watched out the door for other kids to travel down to the bus stop.

I want such good things for her today. I hope that she loves her classes. I pray that she doesn't have trouble with her locker combination. I wish that she will make several hand fulls of new friends and lasting connections. I antisipate that she will miss recess, but think she won't mind.

I send with her strength, courage, warmth and love. I send with her a little bit of spit-fire tangled with consideration. I send with her the ability to know that a thick skin is required, but not necessary because she will do just fine.

My baby is a tower of strength at times you wouldn't think she'd stand. She is brave even when she is petrified. She's funny in times of great apprehension and she knows the difference between right and wrong.

For the entire second half of summer I anxiously awaited this day and couldn't hardly stand the need to enjoy the silence. Now that the day is here staring me in the face, I'm craving the noise and will miss her all day.

PS... I write later and let you know how it goes when she gets home:) Nikki Palmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12670411820448619354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4413636149067974923.post-8033669565707963352012-09-04T00:18:00.000-07:002012-09-04T00:21:25.935-07:00Ratings are Rolling InSo I know it's a little corny, but I just don't care. I'm so excited! I'm starting to get ratings on Good Reads!!!

Clandestine has only been out for a few weeks and the ratings are already starting to roll in. I loged into Good Reads this evening and discovered that I had gotten a couple more FIVE STAR ratings from readers!

So far I haven't gotten anything lower than FIVE STARS! Granted I only have seven ratings total, but still. That's not the point.

The book is available on both Amazon and Barnes and Noble in paperback and in formats for your Kindle and Nook. The cover is amazing so a paperback is the best option for your viewing pleasure. You can get it at the online stores already mentioned, or also directly from my Create Space eStore by clicking HERE I would very much appreciate it if you all helped support my dream and pick up a copy today. It's a great book and if you love paranormal you will love this series.

The other request I have is simple. Will all of you please visit the book pages at Amazon, Barnes and Noble as well as Create Space and press the like button. It would really help me get the word out and I would be eternally grateful.

Don't forget to sign up for my Clandestine Give Away on Good Reads There's still plenty of time and entering is as easy as one click!
It is that when a reader is enveloped in a book, they tend to take on the characteristics of the people in the story they are emerged in. If this is true what does that say for an author?

If the simple act of reading can alter your personality even if only temporary is it more true for an author. A writer has to put themselves into the mind of a character to develop them into reality. They are submerged into the traits, language, personality, mannerisms, etc. In some ways they become that person, at least while they are writing.

When the computer clicks off signaling the days end do the characters stay with them? Are they able to set aside a person who is in no way anything like they are in real life? What would that mean for a writer of something less than flattering?

For instance, do some crime novelists take on the mentality of their villain once the writing day is done? When a person takes on the task of writing about a murder of a famous celebrity, to they bear the burden of that horrible mind set?

Obviously for the majority of cases the answer is no. Maybe in some ways we all take on a little of who we write. We also put pieces of ourselves into our projects.

In order for a person to write a multifaceted three dimensional character that appears they could walk right off the page and enter today’s world, they have to become one with that person. Writers have a wonderful job. They get to embark on endless journeys down the fictitious path of their imagination and creativity. For some this can be a very individualized process and one that can be considered a great learning experience.

Anyone whether they are an author or not can learn a tremendous amount about themselves when they put pen to paper or their fingers to a keyboard. The simplistic art of journaling can be quite beneficial for a person’s soul. Our mind can unlock the key to an infinite number of possibilities if given the chance to breathe and take form.

Does this sound like a lot of gibberish? Well, may it is. Or maybe it’s a profound morsel of knowledge to be passed down through the ages. Okay so probably not that last one, but you get the idea.
